Harvest Brighton and Hove get cooking with Sara Cox and Rufus Hound

Harvest Brighton and Hove welcomed celebrities to their site at Preston Park on Friday, after winning the vote for a visit from Sarah Cox and Rufus Hound as part of the National Lottery's 'Cox and Hound Hit the Road' tour. Sara and Rufus learnt more about what the project is doing for the city of Brighton, and also dug in themselves to harvest some vegetables which were later used in a cook off contest!

Local Food on Local Radio - The 'Made in Shropshire' Pie Challenge

Fordhall Farm in North Shropshire were asked earlier this year to take part in the 'Made in Shropshire' Pie Challenge, a feature being run by BBC Radio Shropshire, to create a Fidget Pie made entirely from locally sourced ingredients. Fordhall Farm provided some scrumptious organic onions, all of which were planted and grown in Shropshire and then harvested by the people of Shropshire. Below you can listen to when the radio visited the farm to collect the ingredients and check out the amazing work they are doing for the area.

Camden Local Food - The Skip Garden

If you're ever passing through King's Cross station in London, then why not wander up to the 'Skip Garden' just around the corner on York Way. This is just one of many urban farming sites cropping up across Camden, all thanks to the dedicated work of volunteer organisation Global Generation.

Local Food on Local Radio

This Local Food funded project created a series of six radio shows which were broadcast across Gloucestershire airwaves, providing members of the public with all they needed to know about local food, local producers and delicious ideas for healthy eating, whilst showcasing 22 local producers. Harvest Brighton & Hove

The enthusiastic local food lovers at Harvest are working to increase the amount of food that is produced within the city of Brighton.

Manor Oaks Farm

Bringing rural life back to inner city Sheffield, this urban farm has been created as part of a new park for communities in the area. Whilst on the farm, those involved will get to grips with the growing, packaging and processing of local goods including the creation of Sheffield's very own apple juice. All the produce grown and created on site is sold in their newly built farm shop, which was made possible with Local Food funding.

Queendown Warren Lamb

Kent Wildlife Trust used Local Food funding to purchase a herd of sheep. Grazing on Queensdown Warren and other Kent Nature Reserves, the herd of traditional breeds are helping to maintain species rich grassland in the area, as well as providing the local economy with a new meat producing social enterprise.

Buzzing for Honey

These kids are busy as bees due to this East Kent project providing schools in the area with lessons in the ancient art of beekeeping, whilst highlighting the importance of this busy creatures impact on our environment.
