Horticultural Supervisor - Stonebridge City Farm
Salary: £20,500 (pro rata) Working Hours: 2 days per week as part of job share
Location: St Anns, Nottingham Employment Type: Fixed term to July 2012
Stonebridge City Farm is looking for a Horticultural Supervisor to work 2 days a week as job share with existing staff in a team with farm volunteers, trainees, residents and partners to develop the “Green Street” Local Food Production project.
Main responsibilities and tasks:
• To support, mentor, develop and train Farm volunteers in food production skills.
• To use practical work to encourage development of personal, social and work-based skills. • To design tasks, developing aids and tools to help people experiencing difficulty to complete tasks • To supervise the growing of food plantlets for community dissemination • To produce an agreed quantity of food and plantlets in a calendar year using unskilled and partially skilled learners and volunteers • To manage the waiting list for volunteers • To provide expertise in the keeping of farm bees and deliver a training programme for interested bee keepers of all levels • To encourage and promote healthy living at all times through the work of Stonebridge City Farm• To work with the staff team on community events and Open Days
• To negotiate individual Learning Plans/Action Plans
• To act as mentor and advisor for visitors to the farm on horticultural matters
• To help design filmed training materials
• To help answer questions and to administrate the “Green Talk” Message Board for external visitors
• Any other duties at the farm reasonably requested by farm management
Essential Attributes:
• Educational and training skills gained over at least three years
• Advanced level knowledge of horticulture and beekeeping
• Ability to work in a team and to contribute to group goals
• Strong negotiation skills with colleagues and with service users
• Excellent multi level communication skills, verbal and written
• Planning ability and experience of schemes of work/work schedules
• A sense of humour
Desirable attributes:
• At least two years experience working in the voluntary sector
• Administration skills
• ICT Skills
• NVQ lll/lV in Advice and Guidance/Teacher Training
• Full clean driving licence
• An interest in ”green” issues and protection of the environment
