Thier vision is to create a borough where food growing and local produce are an integral part of daily life; where communities are empowered to grow food and access affordable local produce; school children learn to grow, prepare and eat healthy local produce and hospital patients are treated to delicious, fresh, local food to speed up recovery and inspire them to start growing their own. We will do this by: • delivering an exciting training programme to over 7000 people, equipping Sutton residents with the food growing skills and ability to follow a healthy diet; • increasing growing opportunities, including development of an allotment training centre and Sutton’s first community farm. • organising regular local food events including tasting sessions, cookery classes, a local food themed environmental fair and harvest festival which will reach more than 20,000 people. • setting up a local food network to source produce from at least 10 local producers and integrate local food into 30 schools and a local hospital; trialling an innovative roaming local food market in areas with limited access to fresh produce, enabling over 5000 low income families to access affordable local food; creating opportunities for local food orientated social enterprises and at least six new local jobs.
