It will provide food and herbs for the school and families, and train children, teachers and locals in food production. The kitchen garden is currently being built and Get Set Grow! Bromet, will be a two year programme of training and activities to involve children, teachers and locals in the growing of food. During term time from March to late October, there will be a school gardening club for children, a monthly gardening workshop for families, two harvest festivals (Sept 2010 and Sept 2011), 2 spring sowing days (May 2010 and May 2011), and a presence at the school summer fair in July 2010 and 2011 (run a local meal competition). The harvest festivals will act as open days for the press and locals. There will be four training sessions for teachers and we will offer summer holiday weeding, watering and harvesting rotas to locals and children. Active involvement in the project will come from Get Set Grow members, many of whom came from Oxhey Hall Horticultural Society and are expert and experienced fruit and vegetable growers.
