The produce will be grown in raised beds, adding to the existing one bed, at the front of the school, to give maximum exposure, encouraging all pupils, staff and parents to grow food. The children in the club will: • Build the beds • Order the seeds • Sow the seeds • Plant out the veg • Harvest the veg • Sell the veg • Cook and eat the veg The club would meet for 1.5 hours once a week in term time learning how to grow, manage and use a range of fruit and vegetables grown on the school plot, activities will be fun and informative, learning how to grow plants from seed, propagate plants by division and cuttings, parents will be encouraged to attend. The club would employ an allotment holder with years of experience and knowledge to run it. The club would visit the allotment site and set up a group of allotment holder volunteers to visit the club. This would create valuable links between the allotment and school and develop beneficial intergenerational interactions. A veg awareness event will be held in March at the school including: • A design the garden workshop run by John Little (www.grassroofcompany.co.uk) • talks aimed at adults from the school and the allotments • seed planting workshops for children.
