Lottery boost for Clifton community garden
23 November 2009
Work began on the project in 2007, when volunteers from the University of Nottingham helped spruce up the site.
A team of volunteers have been running it ever since. The new funding will pay for two part-time workers and buy new equipment like a polytunnel, compost toilets and specialist tools for disabled users.
It will also be used for gardening and cooking workshops.
Emma O'Callaghan, coordinator for the Summerwood Allotments Association, said: "It will enable us to carry on doing what we have been doing, but a lot better."
It is hoped the garden will be used by a variety of local groups. Organisations including the Adult Day Care Centre, local schools, the Youth Offending Team, the Probation Service and Youth Service have already expressed an interest in using the gardens for volunteering, learning and relaxation.
Keith Pavier, secretary of Summerwood Allotment Association, said: "I hope we can work together to make Clifton a better place to live and enjoy, and help to improve the environment for all the people of the area."
