Manor Oaks Farm Enterprise
12 October 2009
The ‘Manor Oaks Farm Enterprise’ project is part of an 18 hectare site being developed by Green Estate at Sheffield Manor Lodge. As well as urban cultivation the project will also develop a diverse farm enterprise, including an onsite farm shop, packaging facilities and Sheffield’s very own apple juice to be produced by local residents and community groups.
The project is currently underway; allotments areas have been cleared; landscaping is in progress; volunteers are working hard and being trained; cultivation plans have been agreed; chickens have arrived; a poly tunnel has been purchased; bees have been bought; the proposed farm shop building is being renovated.
Sue France, CEO of Green Estate said: “This land has not been farmed since the 1950’s and we are bringing it back into production at Sheffield Manor Lodge. We are learning a lot and are encouraging everyone to get involved in the process and help us to keep vital traditional skills alive.”
