This will be done by: • building upon the work already done by individual partners, such as the establishment of the local farmers’ markets and food festivals, campaigns to promote local food, the Weardale Quality Meat / Teesdale Lamb initiatives to provide new routes to market. • sharing expertise, knowledge and project-delivery best practice, particularly that possessed by Teesdale-based organisations. • identify local produce opportunities • develop routes to market to increase trading opportunities and accessibility, e.g. food hubs, delivery schemes • create a “virtual” academy to provide food-related information about producers, business and volunteering opportunities, skills, best practice, accreditation, events. • arrange school visits to farms, instigate cookery and gardening courses for adults and children, work with local community radio - as part of an educational / promotional campaign to raise consumer awareness • support improvements in the production of local food. . It will help sustain the livelihoods of the area’s hill farmers, producers and food-related businesses through improved opportunities for sale and use of local food with all community sectors able to benefit from an improved local food economy and employment opportunities, more accessible, affordable, locally produced food and skill-raising courses.
