As the garden is visited by 10,000+ people annually it is hoped the impact will be far reaching and will help local people realise that even on a small scale there is great benefit to be gained from 'growing your own'. The project will have a number of strands: 1. The community gardener run 2 x 2-hour gardening sessions weekly, for 2 separate groups of 6 from a mental health day centre, and a community organisation working with people with learning difficulties. These groups will grow food on their small plots and celebrate their achievement by regularly ,making healthy meals and snacks on-site incorporating the home grown produce. 2. The installation of a new protected growing space approx dimension 6'x12'. Approx 30 garden members and volunteers weekly will be involved in propagating vegetable, fruit and herb plants for the garden, with any surplus for sale at affordable prices at CCG's bi- annual plant sales. The garden serves a culturally diverse community and hopes to reflect this in the range of plants available. 3. Showcasing small-scale food production to the community and especially to visiting children/schools. Approximated 10 small contained gardens will be created to teaching how and what to grow in pots/ boxes. 4. Information in the form of factsheets and signage will promote awareness about organic food growing, composting and the benefits of eating healthy local food in season. The project will also be promoted in the newsletter and website.
