Soil Association

The Soil Association is a membership charity founded on the importance of the connection between soil, food, the health of people and the health of the planet.  To this end it plays a pivotal role in developing, promoting and supporting organic food and farming in the UK and abroad and is the UK's leading campaigning and organic certification organisation (a not-for-profit subsidiary company).

The Soil Association is also concerned about changing the food system and changing food culture - creating thriving, re-localised, low-carbon food and farming communities, informed by organic principles. Through national and regional programmes, organic networks and a dedicated local food team, the Soil Association facilitates, informs and builds capacity in the local food sector to support the re-establishment of viable human-scale farming, processing, distribution and marketing, and seeks to influence policies across the UK that will assist in making local organic food available to all within a vibrant local food culture.

The Soil Association has been involved in the development of the local food fund from the outset and was also a member of the lottery-funded SEED programme.
