FareShare Community Food Network
FareShare is the UK wide charity that supports communities to relieve food poverty by redistributing quality surplus food from the food industry to over 400 organisations working with people on the margins of society. Alongside making food more accessible, Fareshare provides education and training around the essential life skills of safe food preparation and nutrition in preparation for vulnerable people leading more independent lives.
Last year, 2,000 tonnes of food was saved from being wasted, helping business reduced C02 emissions by 13,000 tonnes and contributing towards 3.3 million meals. 20,000 people each day benefit from the FareShare service. As well as also providing 250 work and volunteer placements, £5 million was saved by the network, which was reinvested into the community."
